History
In 1863 Gerardus Johannes Droste founded the company in Haarlem (Netherlands). In 1891 he startet his own cocoa processing and in the following years stronly expands his product range and starts to export his chocolate and cocoa powder. Around 1900 the famous picture of a woman was on the package (Design by Jan Musset).
Until 1975 the company was owned by the Droste Family. Than the company has some different owners bevor it was bought by swiss Hosta in 1997.
It exist an book about the History of Droste: Droste the history of the Haarlem cocoa- and chocolatefactory", from A. Ebeling and W. Hering. ISBN 90-6076-433-1.
